CBD + Skin Care: What Are The Benefits?

CBD has been taking the world by storm in the last few years. It’s been popping up in all sorts of products, from gummies to chocolates and now it’s even being used in skincare.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound extracted from the cannabis Sativa plant. It is a non-psychoactive compound that is often infused with a carrier oil to produce CBD products such as CBD oil.

If you’re familiar with cannabidiol (CBD) you may already know that it’s often used in products like CBD oil, CBD tinctures, or CBD capsules. But did you know that it can also be applied topically?

Topical CBD products are becoming increasingly more popular, and are available for a wide range of different wellness concerns. Some are made to target specific skin types and skin issues such as dryness or breakouts, while others are used to provide soothing effects.

Although researchers have only just begun to scratch the surface of the possible effects CBD can have on skin health, so far studies seem to be promising. Let’s take a look at the different ways CBD is being used for skincare and what the potential benefits of CBD are!

CBD and Acne-Prone Skin

Acne-prone skin can sometimes feel sensitive and uncomfortable, which is why there are some CBD skincare products that are targeted towards those who often experience breakouts.

Some studies suggest that CBD-infused skincare products may potentially help soothe the skin. This may be beneficial for those who feel like their skin could use a little calming down.

CBD is also often found in products geared towards breakout-prone skin because it may help with sebum, or oil, production, according to some researchers. Sebum is the naturally occurring oil that is produced by your skin.

CBD and Aging Skin

As we age, we are more likely to experience dry skin. CBD is being used in skincare products such as creams, serums, and oils due to its potentially nourishing properties.

Hemp seed oil has already been used for skin maintenance for a while because it's rich in essential fatty acids such as omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Some also believe that oils or serums containing CBD contain antioxidants which might be helpful for those whose skin could use a little boost! One 2009 study, for example, suggested that CBD may have a positive effect on skin dryness.

Although the term hemp oil is often interchangeably to refer to both CBD oil and hemp seed oil, these two are not the same thing. The main difference is that hemp seed oil is made by extracting oil from hemp seeds while CBD oil is made with cannabidiol that has been extracted from the cannabis plant. You can read everything you need to know about the difference between them here.

CBD and Sensitive Skin

Those who feel that their skin appears sensitive or a little picky may also benefit from CBD for the same reason as those with acne-prone skin. The potential hydrating and nourishing properties of CBD work alongside its possible soothing effect.

CBD and Body Care

If you feel a little reluctant to try out CBD on your face, not to worry! While some CBD skincare products may seem beauty-oriented, CBD can also be found in a vast range of products that are meant to be applied only to your body.

These might include things like CBD body butters, moisturizing lotions, or CBD body oils. These types of products usually aim to hydrate and moisturize the skin.

CBD is also found in topical creams designed to soothe and nourish. They might be used by those who experience things like joint discomfort. Topical CBD creams such as these can be formulated with other natural ingredients like menthol, aloe, or coconut oil for an additional calming effect.
