Having respect for both ourselves and our environment is of the utmost importance for us at Primal Bloom. In celebration of Earth Day on the 22nd of April, we wanted to do a special Earth Day post. Read on for more tips on how you can celebrate Earth Day in 2021!
What is Earth Day?
The first Earth Day took place on April 22 in 1970. It began as a nationwide demonstration against the deterioration of the environment. Almost 20 million Americans took part in this mass protest in streets and auditoriums across the country. It ultimately resulted in the creation of the US Environmental Protection Agency as well as the first environmental laws in the country. Twenty years later, in 1990, Earth Day went global and turned into a movement involving countries around the world.
It continues to be celebrated each year around the world, with billions of people taking part to raise awareness for climate action. These days, most of the activities and events are coordinated by EARTHDAY.ORG. This year they’re organizing a three-day event beginning today - April 20th. The theme of this year's Earth Day is "Restore Our Earth."
Why celebrate Earth Day?
Earth Day is an important way to boost the visibility of environmental and climate action. It helps to remind us of how crucial it is to protect our fragile planet and wildlife while appreciating all that nature has to offer. We can all celebrate Earth Day in many different ways, whether it’s in a small but thoughtful way or if it’s by participating or organizing an event.
Here are just a few examples of things that you could do to celebrate this year.
5 IDEAS FOR CELEBRATING EARTH DAY 2021
Take part in a virtual event
There are many different live-streamed or virtual events taking place this year in addition to the ones organized by EARTHDAY.ORG. There are several different summits that are being live-streamed, for example, the Leaders Summit on Climate Change that you can watch using a live stream link.
There are also virtual rallies and marches that are being organized, for example, by Earth Day Initiative and March For Science NY.
There are many other types of virtual events taking place, from 5K runs to art performances, so why not do some investigating online to see if there’s anything that might interest you?
Watch a documentary
There are so many resources available if you want to learn more about different issues related to environmental restoration, climate action, or just nature in general. For example, there is a whole load of environmental or nature documentaries available on different streaming platforms. There’s a whole range of different types of nature documentaries that range from the educational to ones that take a more emotional approach. If you’re not in the right mood or headspace to watch something related to climate change, why not pick a documentary about your favorite animal or country that you’d like to visit? Taking a step into nature might help take your mind off being at home and even inspire you to support an environmental charity or organization for your favorite species.
If watching documentaries simply aren’t your thing, there are also many different podcasts that speak about environmental issues. Maybe your activity for the day could be plugging into one of these podcasts while going for a walk.
Go green for the day
There are so many ways that we can go greener, from recycling plastic to reducing waste. If you’re already the so-called ‘eco-warrior type, you might already have implemented many of these habits into your routine. But if going greener is something that you’ve thought about for a while but have been hesitant to do - what better time to start than Earth Day 2021?
You could refresh your memory about how to recycle in your local area, learn more about reducing food waste, or check out cool ideas of how to repurpose old items of clothing or furniture! If you’re a whiz in the kitchen, why not try out a plant-based recipe or dessert? The internet is brimming with ideas and recipes for you to test out!
Support sustainable products
You could take steps towards living a more sustainable lifestyle by checking out brands that have sustainability at their core. In recent years, many new sustainable clothing and shoe brands have popped up. Not only do many of these look great, but they are eco-friendly and sustainability-driven.
You can also shop more sustainably by choosing locally sourced ingredients, whether it’s your groceries or the supplements that you take. All the CBD in our range of high-quality CBD products has been sourced from U.S.-grown industrial hemp. Buying CBD products can also help to support the hemp industry, which has been researched for its potential environmental benefits. Recent studies have looked at the possible ecological benefits of hemp used in a variety of different ways, from textiles to building materials.
Plant a tree
Okay, so planting trees may not be possible for all of us. If you do happen to have a backyard and are looking for a fun, outdoorsy activity, planting a tree could be a fun way to celebrate Earth Day 2021 with the entire family. If you live in an apartment and don’t have a backyard, you could still get in the spirit of things by planting something small in a window box. Herbs or flowers, for example, can be fairly low maintenance and help give a nice natural feel even if you’re in the city.
There are so many ways that you can celebrate Earth Day 2021, whether you’re in the mood to stay at home or be outdoors. The most important thing is to have fun with whichever way you choose to get involved. That way, you’re more likely to feel inspired to celebrate again next year!
All the best,
